Alan Jackson Describes How September 11 Both Affected & Inspired HimSep 11

As we honor the 12th Anniversary of September 11,Alan Jackson is reflecting on his memories of that day.

“I think I was probably like most people that were impacted with that day and the months that followed, ” he said. “Everybody was glued to the news and television and I think it really affected a lot of people – their perspective on their lives and their jobs and their families and where they were and what they were wanting to do and how they looked at things.”

Alan wrote his song “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” in the weeks that followed September 11. Initially reluctant to record the song, his family and friends convinced him to share it. He debuted the song live at the 35th Annual CMA Awards that November.YouTube Preview Image

Watch Alan performing “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” below:

“I just pretty much visualized a lot of those scenes and stories I’d heard and seen on television or heard people talk about, ” he said. “The song came out of nowhere in the middle of the night – the chorus did. Just a gift. And I got up and scribbled it down and put the melody down so I wouldn’t forget it,and then the next day I started piecing all those verses together that were the thoughts or visuals I’d had.”

12 years later, the song still provokes a strong reaction from those who hear it. The actions in the song resonated and helped bring comfort to a hurting nation.

“I had so many people tell me that there’s always a line or something in there that they did, whether it was go to church or pick up their Bible or go see their mother or watch a sunset, ” he said. “I guess I was like everybody else, just feeling those same feelings.”

14 things that killed the Good Ole Boy

The Good Ole Boy is not an asshole redneck, though he will get drunk and start a fight with you every once in a while. The Good Ole Boy has the hard-working greasy blue jean style of a redneck. He has the good-hearted generous nature and long dirty hair of a hippie. He has the simplistic attitude of an actual Mexican, not one of these capitalism-polluted Mexican-Americans, but one from Mexico driving a beat up Dodge Dart with a milk crate for a seat. And he has the hair trigger ability to blow up recklessly and violently for no reason of a rock star. He is a hippie Mexican redneck rock star, and the Good Ole Boy is almost extinct
