Alan Jackson is best known for his traditional brand of mainstream country, but he’s also been successful in gospel music. Now, the singer is set to unveil a second collection of countrified gospel standards, announcing that ‘Precious Memories Volume II’ is set for release later this month.

The album is a follow-up to ‘Precious Memories, ’ which was somewhat of a surprise hit in 2006. Originally recorded as a Christmas gift for Jackson’s mother, the singer ultimately decided to release the album commercially at the urging of friends and family who’d heard it. The result was a double-Platinum smash that topped three different Billboard charts — Top Country Albums, Top Christian Albums and Top Christian & Gospel Albums — the week of its release.

In a post to his website, Jackson credited his wife with helping him select the songs for the new project, which include classics like ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Love Lifted Me.’

“Denise and I had made a list of 30 to 40 songs to do for that first album, ” he says. “We had so many that we didn’t get to, I thought we’d go in and do a few more just the same way — heartfelt and simple.”

‘Precious Memories Volume II’ is slated for release on March 26 via EMI.

I'm old!

I remember hearing the Hank Williams Sr versions of songs before son Bo made them much more famous. Almost everything gets redone at some point but I tend to prefer the older versions of some songs that I really like more than the newer ones. Probably another sign of age.
This is the original Achy Breaky Heart...
I've seen many concerts (old age again) but my favorites and most touching was an Alan Jackson concert in Reno right after 9/11 when he did Where Were You with NYC twin towers scenes flashed up on the boards. Not a dry eye in the place

14 things that killed the Good Ole Boy

The Good Ole Boy is not an asshole redneck, though he will get drunk and start a fight with you every once in a while. The Good Ole Boy has the hard-working greasy blue jean style of a redneck. He has the good-hearted generous nature and long dirty hair of a hippie. He has the simplistic attitude of an actual Mexican, not one of these capitalism-polluted Mexican-Americans, but one from Mexico driving a beat up Dodge Dart with a milk crate for a seat. And he has the hair trigger ability to blow up recklessly and violently for no reason of a rock star. He is a hippie Mexican redneck rock star, and the Good Ole Boy is almost extinct
